Friday or Sunday?

The NWSL won’t announce the date, time and opponent until the regular season ends on Sunday, November 1. San Diego FC hosts Sporting Kansas City at Snapdragon on Saturday, November 7, so the Wave match is Friday the 6th or Sunday the 8th.

Either way, it’s a big soccer weekend in Mission Valley: two pro matches at Snapdragon in three days.

Planning around the unknown date:

  • If it’s Friday: expect rush-hour traffic on the 8 and the 15. The Green Line Trolley beats sitting on Friars Road. It’s also a school night if you’re bringing kids.
  • If it’s Sunday: an afternoon kickoff means sun. Check the sun and shade guide before you pick seats.

What’s at Stake

One match. No second leg, no series. A tie after 90 minutes goes to two 15-minute extra time periods, then a penalty shootout. Plan for a match that could run 30-plus minutes longer than usual.

Win, and the Wave play a semifinal the weekend of November 13-15, at Snapdragon if they’re the higher remaining seed in their half of the bracket. The NWSL Championship is Saturday, November 21 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. The Wave have never played in one.

The Wave’s seed is still up for grabs. They enter Decision Day at Bay FC in second place and can finish first, second or third. They can’t drop lower, so the visitor will be the No. 6, 7 or 8 seed. Details on the seeding race are in the Wave Playoff Guide.

Why the First Goal Matters

This season, the Wave are 15-0-3 when they score first and 2-8-1 when they don’t. They’ve also scored five goals inside the opening five minutes of matches, the most in the NWSL.

Translation: be in your seat at kickoff. A long security line or a late parking lot could cost you the moment that decides the match.

The Home Crowd

Snapdragon has a playoff track record. The Wave’s 2022 home quarterfinal drew 26,215, and they beat the Chicago Red Stars 2-1 in extra time. The 2023 home semifinal drew 32,262, the biggest crowd in NWSL playoff history. The Wave lost that one 1-0 to OL Reign.

The home finale against Boston on October 25 drew 15,701. Expect more people, longer lines and a louder building than a regular-season Sunday.

  • Stand with The Cove: Sections 136-140 behind the north goal are home to the San Diego Sirens. Bring your voice.
  • Wear it: The Wave released a 2026 playoff collection. The Team Store will be busy on match day, so shop online or arrive early.
  • Make a sign: Signs are welcome within stadium rules. Check what’s allowed for size limits, and keep it out of other fans’ sightlines.
  • Stay to the end: Extra time and penalties happen. Leaving at 90 minutes in a tied playoff match is how you miss the best part.

Tickets

Tickets are on sale now, even before the date and opponent are set. The bracket drops November 1 and the match is less than a week later, so waiting for the matchup leaves you shopping in a short, busy window.

Season Ticket Members get first access to their seats for each home playoff round. Joining for 2027 now is the only way to guarantee a seat at a possible home semifinal too. See the Wave Season Ticket Guide.

Planning Your Visit

Parking

Pre-purchasing is strongly recommended for a playoff crowd. Read the full Snapdragon Stadium parking guide and buy a pass in advance. Free street parking options are covered in the free parking guide.

Getting Here

Address: 2101 Stadium Way, San Diego, CA 92108

The Green Line Trolley drops you right at the stadium, and it skips the parking lot exit after the match. Rideshare is available, but expect surge pricing at the final whistle. Full directions and transit info in the getting here guide.

What to Bring

  • Clear bag, required for stadium entry
  • Check what’s allowed before you pack
  • Empty refillable water bottle
  • A layer for a November night match, or sunscreen and a hat for a Sunday afternoon kickoff
  • Mobile tickets saved to your phone wallet before you arrive (cell service gets spotty with a big crowd)

Food & Drink

See the stadium food and drink guide and the dessert guide. Lines get long at halftime with a playoff crowd, so eat before kickoff or right after it.

With Kids

Read the kids and family guide for stroller policies, nursing rooms and more. If extra time is on the table, so is a late night.

Seating

Check the seating chart and use the 3D seat viewer to preview your view before you buy.
