Club America is the record holder, sixteen league titles, the club most of Mexico loves to hate. Cruz Azul just won the Clausura and has spent fifty-plus years trying to get even. This match won’t count toward anything official, but don’t expect either side to treat it that way: real starting lineups, hard tackles, and two blocks of fans (one in blue, one in gold) trying to out-sing each other for two hours straight. It’s not on the Liga MX calendar. It’s still the real rivalry, just relocated a few hundred miles north for the weekend.
New to Liga MX? Club América and Cruz Azul are two of Mexico City’s biggest, most decorated clubs (26 combined domestic titles between them). Their rivalry, El Clásico Joven, ranks second only to El Clásico Nacional (América vs. Guadalajara) for intensity in Mexican soccer.

La Máquina • Reigning Champs
This isn’t a preseason walkabout with the reserves. Both clubs are sending real rosters, because neither one wants to be the side that loses this in front of a sold-out crowd of their own fans. Officially it’s an exhibition. On the field, nobody’s going to play it like one.
The rivalry dates to the 1971-72 season, when Cruz Azul blew past América in their first final together and started something that’s never cooled off. Snapdragon Stadium splits down yellow and blue lines before warmups finish.
Combined, these two clubs hold 26 domestic league titles and 14 Concacaf Champions Cups. That’s most of the serious hardware in Mexican club soccer, all turning up on the same field in Mission Valley for one night.
