That’s the only meeting in the Sprint Season. SDFC doesn’t play at the Galaxy until the 2027-28 season, which starts in July. Full dates are on the San Diego FC schedule.

A 14-match season means this one could matter for playoff position. MLS Cup Playoffs start in May.

Why It’s a Rivalry

You’d think the Galaxy’s big rival is San Diego. It isn’t. Their derby is LAFC, “El Tráfico.” San Diego is the newer problem, and so far the bigger one.

  • It started on day one. SDFC’s first MLS match was at the Galaxy, who were defending MLS Cup champions. SDFC won 2-0.
  • Chucky Lozano switched sides. SDFC’s first Designated Player went to the Galaxy on loan in August 2026. He scored San Diego’s 95th-minute winner in 2025, then scored against San Diego at Snapdragon a year later. Expect a reaction when his name is read.
  • San Diego vs. Los Angeles. This city watched the Chargers and Clippers move north. Beating LA teams goes over well here.
  • The Galaxy have the history. More MLS Cups than anyone. They haven’t beaten a club that started play in 2025.

Going to the Match

A Saturday night rivalry match fills the lots. Book parking in advance or take the Trolley. The loudest seats are in the north end; see the Supporters Section guide and learn the chants. Pick seats with the seating chart, and check the bag policy before you go.
