Metallica Is Playing Snapdragon Stadium in 2027. Here’s the San Diego Date, Tickets, and Openers.
Date: Thursday, May 13, 2027
Metallica, the Bay Area thrash pioneers behind “Enter Sandman” and “Master of Puppets,” is scheduled to perform in San Diego at Snapdragon Stadium. The show is one stop on the band’s M72 World Tour, which resumes after Metallica’s Life Burns Faster residency at Sphere in Las Vegas wraps on March 13, 2027.
Helpful tip for first-timers: pay for parking in advance.
Be sure to check the Snapdragon concert seating guide to familiarize yourself with your options. Unlike a typical end-stage concert, the M72 tour uses an in-the-round setup, with the stage built in the center of the field and seating wrapped on all sides. That changes which sections count as good seats compared to a normal show.
Also scheduled to appear as opening acts: Limp Bizkit and Avatar. Showtime and gate-opening time have not been announced yet.
Formed in Los Angeles in 1981, Metallica is composed of James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo. The band has sold over 125 million albums worldwide and won nine Grammy Awards, and is widely credited as one of the founders of thrash metal.
The M72 World Tour launched in Amsterdam in 2023 and has since played to millions of fans across North America and Europe. The tour’s signature feature is its in-the-round Snake Pit stage, which puts the band at the center of the crowd instead of facing it from one end. A portion of proceeds from every ticket sold goes to local charities through Metallica’s All Within My Hands foundation.

Metallica has a long history in San Diego, though never at this scale. The band first played the city on March 9, 1985, on the Ride the Lightning tour, at a venue on the San Diego State University campus, the same ground Snapdragon Stadium now sits on. Since then Metallica has returned across multiple tours, including a run at the Sports Arena in the early 1990s, a show at Cox Arena in 2008, a surprise Comic-Con set at the Spreckels Theatre in 2013, and a 2017 stop in the city. The Snapdragon Stadium show will be the biggest crowd the band has played for in San Diego by a wide margin.
