Colombia and Jordan bring two very different World Cup stories to Snapdragon Stadium on June 7. One is a South American heavyweight ranked 13th in the world, using this as their final tune-up before a tournament they’re built to go deep in. The other is making their first-ever World Cup appearance and treating a California date against elite competition as essential preparation. This is the second match of the Countdown to ’26 International Soccer Weekend — Switzerland vs. Australia kicks off the previous day.
Match: Colombia vs. Jordan
Date: Sunday, June 7, 2026
Kickoff: 4:00 PM PT
Venue: Snapdragon Stadium, San Diego, CA
Series: Countdown to ’26: International Soccer Weekend
Also this weekend: Switzerland vs. Australia — Saturday, June 6 at 12:00 PM
On sale now. San Diego’s Colombian community is going to make this loud — get in early.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup opens June 11. Colombia plays their first group stage match June 17 in Mexico City against Uzbekistan — then heads to Guadalajara for their second. This San Diego date is their final showcase in the United States before the squad travels south to their official base camp in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Given that Colombia’s first two World Cup matches are both played in Mexico, training and acclimating in the correct regional environment matters — and that process starts here.
Jordan’s calculus is different and more urgent. This is Jordan’s first-ever FIFA World Cup appearance — they qualified for the first time in their history in June 2025 with a 3-0 victory over Oman. They open World Cup play June 16 against Austria at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, and their second group match on June 22 (vs. Algeria) is also at Santa Clara. Playing Colombia — a top-15 side — at a California venue lets Jordan face elite competition while adjusting to the exact time zone and coastal conditions they’ll encounter when the tournament begins.
Ranked 13th in the FIFA World Rankings, Colombia enters as one of the more dangerous sides in the tournament. They’re grouped in Group K with Portugal, Uzbekistan, and DR Congo — a group with a clear favorite but real intrigue behind it. Colombia’s attack has been electric in recent years. Expect this San Diego crowd to skew heavily in yellow.
Jordan’s presence at a World Cup is genuinely historic. The national team qualified for the first time ever — one of four first-time participants at the 2026 tournament alongside Cape Verde, Curaçao, and Uzbekistan. They’re in Group J with Argentina, Algeria, and Austria — a brutally tough draw that includes the defending World Cup champion. Jordan’s mission here is preparation and experience, not just points. Still, a team capable of making history once is worth watching.
These matches are organized by San Diego FC in partnership with Snapdragon Stadium, Sports San Diego, and Lions Sports & Media. The two-day event — Switzerland vs. Australia on June 6, Colombia vs. Jordan on June 7 — gives all four nations a competitive final tune-up in North America. San Diego’s 35,000-seat MLS-caliber venue, World Cup-adjacent climate, and growing soccer identity made it a natural fit for this kind of high-stakes preview weekend.
The 2026 World Cup is the largest in the tournament’s history — 48 teams, 104 matches, 16 venues spread across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Snapdragon Stadium is already confirmed as a 2028 Olympic soccer venue, and San Diego’s footprint in global football is expanding fast. These June warmup matches are part of that story.
