The new River Park at Snapdragon Stadium is finally open, delivering more urban hiking, family fun, and a dose of nature in the heart of the city.

Getting Started: A Park for All

Picture this: sprawling 34 acres of green goodness behind Snapdragon Stadium, offering a playground, basketball courts, fitness areas, picnic tables, and grassy fields for whatever fun you fancy. Perfect for families, joggers, picnickers, and anyone just looking to soak up some sun.

Hiking & Biking
The real gem here is the 2-mile paved loop circling the SDSU Mission Valley site, part of the San Diego River Trail. Keep an eye out for handy mileage markers every quarter mile and take in the informative signs along the way, sharing stories about Kumeyaay heritage, local birdlife, and the history of agriculture.
For those seeking a little off-road excitement, discover short dirt trails that wind past vibrant flowers and charming gardens. The paths are easy-going with no steep inclines, making it a smooth hike for everyone.

Playgrounds
Designed for children 2 years old and up, the playground features a rope climbing tree, play structures with slides and monkey bars. With two tiers catering to different age groups, it’s a safe and exciting space for the little ones.

Sports
Multi-use grass fields ideal for soccer, rugby, lounging in the sun, picnicking, or a game of casual sports like Frisbee or touch football. Hardtop courts with four basketball hoops (including two half-courts and a full court), pickleball, and fitness equipment.

Getting There

Navigating to the park is a breeze. By car, take Friars Road to Snapdragon, head south on River Park Road. Ample parking is available. Or take the Green Line trolley to the Stadium station – you’ll find River Park right beneath the trolley tracks.
